This is interesting, people racing across India in rickshaws, and they're not Indian! I guess it's something interesting. Some of them are even a little pimped out.
The Institute of Adventure Research, a group of eccentric lunatics, have decided that the best way to enjoy the Christmas holiday season is to spend it in a three-wheeled, 150cc, motorised rickshaw, navigating the mountains, mud tracks and tropical heat of India.
Not to be confused with the Cannonball Run, the Rickshaw Run has been organized by the mysterious League of Adventurists, who believe that the world is far too full of health and safety regulations and have set their sights on saving the world from the tyranny of boringness and safety. However, being a jolly good bunch of fellows, they decided that all their adventures should raise money for amazing charities.
This year's Rickshaw Run started on the 27th of December, 2006, at Cochinin the deep south of India and will finish some 2000 miles and 2 weeks later, at the famous tea town of Darjeeling, in the Himalaya foothills. The exact route is left to the discretion of the teams or possibly the number of gin & tonics they consume.
I can't really imagine what he's thinking and how he's living. At least in the US, people have some hope, but this guy in India has nothing. He knows in 5 years the medicine will stop working, the tremble in his voice got me :(
It's always hard to find out which group started things. Muslims blame Hindus, and Hindus blame Muslims.
Scene from Gadar showing Muslim mobs attacking Hindus and Sikhs leaving Pakistan in 1947.
Derogatory words were also written on trains coming to India full of dead bodies.
Some Hindus and Sikhs took revenge as shown in the later part of the video, but it was too little too late.
Train hold-ups and killing of Hindu and Sikh passengers was a regular feature of the Muslim League plan of action, as various incidents from March, right up till January, 1948 show.
All these atrocities on Hindus and Sikhs brought no condemnation whatever from the Muslim League leaders. They either kept silent about them, or continued to trot out imaginary atrocities on Muslims. This not only encouraged the Muslim goondas, but gave them the confidence that they could go on safely with the blessings of the League leaders.
Would the world be a better place if religion didn't exist?
I don't think I've ever noticed how much tobacco is flaunted around in the movies. This really isn't a documentary, but more like a collection of clips from Bollywood movies.
Despite film industry promises to self-police tobacco promotion on screen, tobacco brands popped up in more than 40 percent of Indian films released since 2004. That is almost triple the 15 percent incidence observed before the enforcement of a comprehensive ban on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship. As per the research study by the Chandigarh based NGO, Burning Brain Society and supported by WHO, 89 percent of the films released and analyzed after the tobacco advertising ban included generic or branded tobacco imagery.
This is a video that i made from scratch. It depicts the lives of hungry starving people, and is a campaign to ask people to donate money. The point of this video is to show that even one donation can make a difference. I shot this in pakistan. I spent my chinese new year holidays in Pakistan, and i visited poor villages and decided to make a documentary. Although there are more severe cases of poverty in Africa, I thought it would be nice for people to see poverty on the other side of the world. The competition that I am submitting this for is for Trunkaid.org and is for higschool children. I am only 17 years old, so i see this as a huge accomplishment for myself :) This video does mean alot to me, and any comments would be nice. Thank you! And i hope this video will convice you to start donating money!!! (more)
